Having its origins from the teachings of the Buddha, meaning 'The Awakened One' and also known by his princely name Siddhārtha Gautama or by the title Śākyamuni, Buddhism expanded far and wide from its source in India. Influencing and getting influenced by the many countries and peoples and beliefs it spread to, many different Buddhist schools emerged within it, with different approaches and interpretations on the path to liberation from Saṃsāra, the cycle of death and rebirth.
