The Church is not immune to the purges of the Oprichnina, and members of the Clergy, particularly those who were perceived as a threat, are targeted. Monasteries are regularly pillaged, and monks are subjected to violence. Strict censorship is extended to theological works, religious texts, and historical writings, and people who adhere to different forms of Christianity are viewed with suspicion.
