Emerging as a syncretism of mixed practices from Buddhism, Shintō, and Onmyōdō, Shugendō aims for the achievement of supernatural powers via religious training in the mountains. Mountain worship and trekking are the main focuses of this sect, as well as other esoteric practices and rituals.
