Gateway of the Alps
Verona sits at the point where the road from the Brenner Pass descends into the Po plain, making whoever holds our city the keeper of the most traveled route between Italy and the German lands. We have rebuilt our walls with the full depth of bastioned fortification and maintained the largest permanent garrison in northern Italy. This position means that any army moving south must either take Verona first or leave a hostile city at its back, and we intend to make both choices expensive.
