Hulk
The hulk was a type of European ship, the predecessor of the carrack and caravel, that originated in the Low Countries as a river boat, and was used predominantly as a cargo vessel, although it could be also used in war. It was constructed with a single mast with a square sail, and with a castle on both ends of the ship. Capable of rivaling the cog's carrying capacity, the hulk was the main trade ship used by the Hanseatic League.
