Pāli Canon
Although there are many different canons in Buddhism, depending on the school, the Theravāda Pāli Canon is the oldest and most prestigious. Other schools have created their canons from a mix of texts with various sources, but the Pāli Canon has remained unchanged since the times of Ashoka 'the Great', and contains the words of the Buddha himself. It has also served as the foundation of many other schools.
