Neopatras Fortresses
In the mountainous frontier of southern Thessaly, the lords of Neopatras — first Brienne and later Aragonese — constructed and repeatedly strengthened one of the most formidable castle complexes in Frankish Greece, turning the ancient city into a virtually impregnable stronghold that withstood repeated sieges by their enemies. These towering walls, deep ditches, and cleverly situated outworks became a symbol of Latin tenacity, allowing a small but determined garrison to project influence deep into central Greece and delay the northward advance of hostile powers for generations.
