A new type of unit organization has been born out of Germany's constant wars: The Landsknechte, which takes the form of mixed troops formed by innovative pikemen squares, with arquebusiers supporting from their flanks, and a front line composed of the infamous Doppelsöldner, 'double-pay men', carrying two-handed swords. This allows for tactics that combine close-quarters and medium-range combat.
