Cyril and Methodius
Two Byzantine theologians from the 9th century, these men were instrumental to the evangelization of the Slavs. They are credited for developing the Glagolitic alphabet, the first one to ever be used to transcribe Church Slavonic, and their followers later developed the Cyrillic alphabet, naming it after Cyril in his honor.
