East-Indiaman
The Eastindiaman was a general term for all ships operating for any of the East India Trading Companies. Being able to carry both passengers and goods, they were built at first to carry as much as possible. They were still armed to defend themselves against pirates, so they could also participate in war engagement, but trade was always their main function.
