The Scottish King in Exile
Ever since the Battle of Halidon Hill in 1333, David and his closest advisors have lived in exile in France under the protection of Philip. In the years since David's exile, the pretender Edward, backed by England, has fought against forces loyal to David in Scotland in an attempt to claim the Scottish throne for himself.
Since the signing of the Auld Alliance in 1295, Scotland and France have maintained a close relationship. Should Balliol succeed in Scotland, it will surely see the Kingdom succumb to English influence once more. If the faction loyal to David is to succeed, it will need the backing of the French court.
