Avogadoria de Comùn
The state is in the hands of the noble and wealthy families who occupy key positions in the Venetian government. To defend the interests of the state and, by extension, of these families, the Council created the Avogadoria de Comùn - the public prosecutors - who supervise accounts of high positions, investigate allegations of corruption and prosecute violations of law.
Even the Doges themselves are not spared by their watchful eyes...
