Yamashiro
Built exclusively as defensive positions in case of need, yamashiro are fortified hilltops with earthworks and wooden palisades rather than stone walls. The residences of the lords and retainers are at the foot of the hills, using only the fortified structures in case of an attack. Some of the most impressive yamashiro include fortifications on multiple hilltops, connecting them together by earthwork corridors and many layers of palisade fortifications.
