Under the reformists in our nation, we have taken the radical step of legally abolishing serfdom, before many of our neighbors. By transforming the peasantry from 'chattel' into 'taxable subjects', we have centralized the state's fiscal power and broken the absolute control of the rural boyars. This social revolution provides the Voivode with a more direct relationship with the people, creating a more mobile and economically active population capable of supporting a modernizing central administration.
