Before Florence claimed the Renaissance as its own, the scholars of the Veneto were already recovering the texts of antiquity and asking what it means to live as a citizen rather than a subject. Francesco Petrarca spent his final years among us, and the libraries and courts of the region drew men of letters who saw no contradiction between classical learning and Christian faith. This tradition of Umanesimo shapes how our governors think — not only as administrators but as men formed by history and argument, elevating the quality of every negotiation we conduct.
