Studium Generale
Founded by King Alfonso V of Aragon, the University of Catania was the oldest in Sicily and one of the few southern institutions granted full Studium Generale status. Unique for its royal charter and blend of scholastic and legal education, it produced jurists, theologians, and scientists who served both Church and Crown in a culturally diverse region.
