The School of Medicine
The medical faculty of Padua has been recognized across Europe as the most rigorous training ground for physicians since the university was founded, combining systematic anatomical study with clinical observation in a way that the great Arab compilations alone could never provide. The students who pass through its dissection theatre carry an understanding of the body more detailed and more precise than any other school in the Christian world could offer, and the physicians they become have changed how illness is understood and treated in every city they subsequently serve. This tradition of empirical medicine gives our population a resistance to epidemic disease that more superstition-dependent approaches cannot produce and deepens the literacy of every educated class the university touches.
