The problems posed by the coke blast furnaces, especially the amount of impurities the coke creates in the final cast iron, has led to the development of the hot blast. It not only greatly reduces the use of coke, therefore improving the quality of the Iron, but also allows the use of raw mineral coal as fuel if available, which is a great step forward in Iron metallurgy.
