Biedermeier
The Biedermeier period marks a shift in social conservatism stemming from the upper classes and their nostalgia for the time when they held the most influence and power in our country. This social change has led our more free-thinking citizens to shroud their creative and intellectual pursuits in relative secrecy, well out of the public's disapproving gaze. While this inadvertently strengthens the development of a cultural identity amongst our merchants, it has also forced many valuable minds to leave our nation, seeking their lost freedoms — and taking their talents — elsewhere.
