A more expensive method than traditional metallurgy, the use of blast furnaces allows us to further refine pig iron into cast iron by re-melting it with different quantities of iron, steel, limestone, and charcoal. Cast iron made into wrought iron this way creates an excellent material for making complex products such as cannon.
