West African

Despite being very diverse in terms of culture, language, and even religion, the people living in West Africa and the Sahel, all have a shared set of traits and characteristics, fueled by centuries of interactions among themselves. The relatively difficult-to-traverse terrains of the Sahara desert to the north and the forest and jungles to the south have promoted a more horizontal contact between peoples, creating this shared identity.
