Kwa

The Kwa peoples of the Gold Coast and the Bight of Benin speak languages of the Kwa branch of Niger-Congo, encompassing the Akan states of the interior and the coastal Ewe and Fon kingdoms. Their societies are marked by matrilineal inheritance among the Akan and the powerful Vodun religious tradition among the Fon and Ewe.
