The domains of the Target Dynasty, built with the blood and sweat of our dear Target Character, have in recent years become the target of a grand coalition of puny states from northern Italy. Originally composed of only the Venice and the Florence, our recent bid for peace has been betrayed by our arbitrators, who have chosen to side with our foes. No matter — they, too, will be severely punished for their transgressions.

20historical_info = flavor_ver.1.historical_info The Scaliger War started in the middle of 1336 as a result of Scaliger-Venetian frictions. The genesis of the conflict was the Veronese installation of chains to levy tolls, which directly threatened the commerce of the Serene Republic. Though negotiations were conducted to resolve the issue amicably, the Venetian senate hardened their position, halting salt exports and leading the Scaliger Padua to create their own saltworks. The conflict finally started on the 22nd of June, when Florence and Venice signed an agreement in which the former would cover two-thirds of the cost of the war.
