Numerous wars had been fought between 1456 and 1490, pitching the Country against the Rising Power, with the consequence of Country losing more pieces of her commercial empire (inherited from the Fourth Crusade in 1204) in the Aegean Sea and Greece (Athína in 1460, Chalkís in 1470). A war erupted again in 1499, Country losing fortresses in Morea such as Methóni, Coron and Navarrin.
