The King of Cyprus
In 1458, the Sultan received an illegitimate son of the King of Cyprus, who attempted to wrest his father's crown away from his half-sister who became queen. The Sultan decorated him with a 'robe of honor', and promised to install him as King of Cyprus. When the Queen offered a large tribute to Cairo, the Sultan relented and recognized the Queen's authority over Cyprus. As Jaques had befriended several Mamlūk guards, they protested and attacked the Cypriot embassy in protest.
