After the Elector declared himself and ducal Prussia as completely independent from the Kingdom of Poland in 1660, Roth and his allies in the Council of Königsberg, petitioned the King of Poland, John II Casimir Vasa, to once again accept the lands of East Prussia into his authority. The silence of the Polish King and the entrance of Friedrich Wilhelm in Königsberg in October 1662 put an end to the brewing rebellion, with Roth being arrested and imprisoned for life.
