10historical_info = flavor_bei.1.historical_info In the 1360s, Awang Alak Betatar, the Hindu Raja of Brunei, converted to Islam. He did this to become eligible to marry a foreign princess, usually understood to be the daughter of the Johor Sultan. Upon his conversion, the former Raja became known as Sultan Muhammad Shah. His dynasty still rules Brunei to this day, making it one of the most venerable ruling houses in history.
