As our society evolves to further value the input of the community, courts have become more dependent than ever on the judgment of important community members and the agreement of the public to dictate the fate of a defendant. No more will a cold, flawed, inflexible piece of paper decide the fate of men, rather, the amassed wisdom of the townspeople that live alongside a defendant has become the judges, rather than jury, of anyone who is claimed to have wronged a community.
Commoners like this form of justice, but many urbanites and scholars cast doubt over the fairness of a judgment handled by non-professionals. Should the state allow this to continue?
