As a result, peasants were only allowed to change landowner during a two-week period known as Yuri's Day, which coincided with the religious feast of St George. The restrictions were temporarily relaxed during Ivan IV's reign by clarifying the payments due to the landowner. The restrictions were severely enforced at the end of the XVI century, accompanied by the abolition of any exceptions, cementing the establishment of complete serfdom.
