The Cleansing of Tadodaho
Though the tales of the co-founders of the confederation such as Jigonsaseh and Hiawatha were instrumental in the establishment of the Haudenosaunee confederation, the climax of the tale with Tadodaho symbolizes the completion of the tale as shown on the Wampum belt.
Detailing the final part of our founding, Target Character recounts the importance of the cleansing of the tyrant, Tadodaho. The last major holdout in the journey to establish the Great Law of Peace, Tadodaho had previously refused attempts by Hiawatha to convince his people to adopt the Great Law, and according to the tale, used terrible magics to kill Hiawatha's daughters for his attempts at negotiations. Following the fleeing of Hiawatha, he would soon return with the Great Peacemaker, and together through ceremonial hymns calmed the evil spirit within Tadodaho. Despite his earlier tyrannical acts, Deganawida bestowed Tadodaho and his tribe the honor of being the keepers of the council fire, allowing his tribe to maintain an influential role in the eventual confederation.
