The Great Migration
Our inability to find common ground with the Puritan clergy, who feel alienated by the lack of change in the Church and see little promise in the religious and political environment, is leading to a growing exodus of Puritans from Country. They have chartered a sizeable fleet consisting of eleven ships, which has begun to rapidly transport passengers away.

19174historical_info = flavor_eng.186.historical_info The Great Migration occurred between 1620 and 1640 and involved the relocation of tens of thousands of followers of Calvinism, commonly known as Puritans, who were living in England. They had long been striving to reform the Church of England,, however, faced with minimal progress and dwindling hope for reform within their homeland, they opted for emigration instead. Most Puritans settled in the American colonies, however, there was also considerable emigration to Ireland, the Low Countries, and the recently established colonies in the Caribbean. The arriving colonists played a foundational role in shaping the early American colonies, and their ideas and institutions contributed to the unique character of early American society.
