Some members of our State Church have suffered dearly due to excessively high-interest rates, voices are being raised and pamphlets circulated condemning 'Usury and Fraud' and claiming that petty brokers are to be seen in every street.
It is the view of our State and its Church that charging interest is compatible with being a good Christian yet in some cases it seems it can lead to excesses. Perhaps it would be best to further decrease the allowed amount of interest to curb the worst cases.
