The Non-Possessor Movement
The Church is a large landowner and this has brought a great deal of wealth to it. The non-possessors now claim that it is being corrupted by this great wealth, while their opponents argue that it is needed to carry out its holy mission. The key thing is we do not get much taxes from such wealth, and if the Church was forced to give its land away then it would move it into the hands of people we can tax. Of course, the downside would be that the resources of the faith would be diminished.
