Resistance to the Reformation in Country
There are still those, especially in the countryside, who oppose the State Church of Country and who long to return to the embrace of the Roman Church. There is, however, a big difference between religious doubts and open rebellion, though so far things have been quiet in Country. The State Church has thus been content to leave most of these dissidents alone, as long as they continue to attend services and pay their taxes.
It seems this peace was not meant to last, however. The recent appropriation of Church silver in the area has been regarded as an open declaration of war by the locals and they are now taking up arms to protect their churches from the greedy hands of Capital.
