A Contentious Appointment
Target Character is a Sufi mystic beloved by large segments of the Commoners, and, it must be said, a brilliant man/woman. Appointing him Šayḵ al-Islām would be a good next step in formalizing the hierarchy among the Clergy and tying the rulings in Fatwa matters closer to the Dynasty - but conservative theologians are aghast that we would even consider a Sufi for this.

Murad IV appointed Zekeriyazade Yahya Efendi, who was a very capable man, but would eventually become embroiled in complicated court intrigues, with a crowd of thousands marching to the palace to demand his execution. In the end, however, he lived a long life.
