Border Reivers
Constant wars between England and Scotland are having a devastating effect on the border regions, since they are the first affected by enemy invading armies. This means that people on the borders constantly see their lives and houses threatened.
The hardships of living under such uncertain conditions make those border communities attempt to gain any advantage they can to secure their livelihood. Seeking security through strength in numbers, they raid bordering regions indiscriminately.
These raiders, known as border reivers, have been active along the Anglo-Scottish border from the late 13th century, consisting of both Scottish and English people. Raids are most generally done during the early winter months, taking advantage of the longer nights and the accumulated food after summer.
