2984historical_info = flavor_rus.32.historical_info Mikhail Shcherbatov was an important statesman, historian and philosopher in eighteenth century Russia. He became a member of the Board of Trade in 1768, president of the Collegium of State Income in 1778 and a Senator in 1779. Though a leading representative of Russian conservatism and a critique of the Russian Enlightenment movement, he is remembered as an author of several works criticizing the decay of moral values.
