Popularization of the Kakawin Poems
Amidst the cultural and social flourishing that our people are currently experiencing, a new prominent form of literature has surfaced. These new poems originated from the spreading influence of Indian epics such as Rāmāyaṇa and Mahābhārata. The spread of foreign faiths and, as a side-effect, the cultural exchanges, have led to new forms of literary expressions.
Despite being heavily influenced by their Indian counterparts, Kakawin poems are not mere imitations or even translations, as they successfully blend local and foreign cultural richness to create epic mythology and story-telling. Such artistic expression is surely the sign of our golden age, facilitated by the pen of people such as Target Artist!
