930historical_info = flavor_hab.17.historical_info Due to general discontent with the rule of the Prince-Archbishop a majority of the people of Salzburg saw itself drawn to the Reformation early after the publication of the Ninety-five Theses. While these sympathies flared up often during times of unrest, the government of Salzburg suppressed and expelled many Protestants. The emigration patent granted for all the territory administrated by the Bishop of Salzburg in 1731 reconfirmed the hostile stance and expelled 20,000 Protestant people from the area.
