Several generations ago King Gebre Mesqel Lalibela had a vision for the city that bears his name, to be a mirror image of the Holy City of Jerusalem and to attract pilgrims from all around the Christendom. The churches he created are magnificent centers of faith but there is still much work to be done to reach Lalibela's dreams.
