8historical_info = flavor_cas.1.historical_info After his rejection by King John II of Portugal, Christopher Columbus tried to find support for his planned voyage elsewhere. While his ideas were initially rejected by the advisors of Queen Isabella I of Castile, he was not dismissed entirely. After the Conquest of Granada in 1492, Queen Isabella and her spouse, King Ferdinand II of Aragon, finally agreed to finance his expedition. Columbus embarked from Palos de la Frontera in August 1492 in command of the caravels Pinta and Niña, and the nao Santa María, arriving at 'Guanahani', probably in the Bahamas Islands, on October 12.
