With the ideas of the Enlightenment spreading like a wildfire all over the world, we have received unsettling news from our colonial possessions. They seem to be discussing disturbing ideas such as representation and self-determination. While we are not sure where these ideas sprung from, as we always acted in their best interest, it seems likely that this will not be easy to ignore. We should anticipate significantly more trouble in dealing with our colonial possessions in the future.
