異端審問法
もとはカタリ派の異端を弾圧するために設けられた異端審問は、いまやカトリック教会が異端を調査し訴追するための主な手段となっている。特別な宗教裁判所に所属する訓練を受けた異端審問官が、異端の疑いのある者を尋問して信仰上または道徳上の逸脱を自白させ、カトリックの規範に背いた者には悔悛から死刑に至るまでのさまざまな刑罰を科すのである。
