グルの教えに基づき創始された宗教。インドの多様なヒンドゥー教信仰を起源とし、イスラム教の影響も多く取り入れている。唯一の創造神、イク・オンカーを信仰する。また、万人の利益のために正直かつ無欲に行動するよう説く。瞑想や内省によって神とつながることや、神の存在を意識するための手段としての唱和や音楽の実践を奨励している。
