Herat Ruler, the ruler of Herāt, has sent Ali Qushji as a delegate to the Dynasty court. Ali Qushji is a celebrated astronomer who long worked at the great observatory in far Samarkand, and wrote a book charting the courses of the moon. With his diplomatic mission now completed, he hopes to stay in Capital Location with his sons and followers, to contribute to the sciences under our auspices.

Ali Qushji, having heard about Mehmed II's positive attitude towards scientists, accepted a request by the lord of Herat to become his delegate at the Ottoman court. Qushji was a champion of empirical astronomy based on mathematics, and rejected the Aristotelian legacy of the Islamic astronomy of old. Several of his descendants would become prominent astronomers in Constantinople.
