The Merits of Silence
Several deaf-mute young men and women were recently brought to the slave-market in Capital Location, and sent to court as a gift. 4082historical_info = flavor_tur.61.historical_info The Interior Service featured many unusual characters, and was notable for its employment of Dilsiz, deaf-mutes. It was considered that they could be entrusted with secrets and especially sensitive missions, and accordingly, they often acted as guards, attendants, messengers - and sometimes executioners. Though mute, many of them were literate and used their own sign language.
