The Drums of War
The Mehter bands, sprung from tent makers and musicians, have long played an important part in our culture, and indeed, the first such band was gifted to Ottoman by Kayqubad III, a great sultan of Rûm. In wartime, they perform their music outside the Ruler Title's tent, and everyone stands in honor of Kayqubad.
But why should we continue to stand for a sultan who died so long ago? We too have now become great. The time may be ripe to sit down, though the traditionalist Nobility may resent it.
