The Cloud-Catcher
The bey of Egypt, Ali Al Kabir, whom they call The Cloud-Catcher, has attained significant power, and, we now hear, struck coins in his own name, an open act of rebellion against the Sublime Porte. But we have a chance to kill the rebellion in its cradle, by convincing one of his commanders, Abu Al Dhahab, to betray him. This would be seen as underhanded though, and still cause some discontent among the people of Egypt.

1401historical_info = flavor_tur.24.historical_info Despite having conquered the Mamluk Sultanate in 1518, the Ottomans continued to rely on Mamluks factions as part of the governance of Egypt. Two such factions ended up in a bitter rivalry in mid-18th century Egypt, and out of that conflict, Alī Bey al-Kābīr emerged. Once he had consolidated his power, he rebelled against Ottoman rule, winning several victories in Syria and the Hijaz. But the Ottomans managed to halt his progress by causing mistrust between him and his subordinates, and soon after, he was killed in Cairo, ending the Egyptian rebellion.
