The Eunuchs of Cairo
Trouble is brewing in Cairo, due to unrest in far Rebellion Location. Since many of our former black harem eunuchs have retired with great wealth in Cairo, there are now mobs in the streets, shouting that the politically skilled eunuchs should go to Rebellion Location themselves, rather than expect the Lower Egyptian people to send their own sons to quench the uprising. But the elderly eunuchs feel that this is unreasonable, and have pledged to devote more resources to the well-being of Cairo if we refrain from sending them.

By tradition, black eunuchs retired in their old age to Cairo, where they possessed both wealth and influence. Egypt played a symbolic part in the life of these men, since they had often been castrated and educated in Egypt after being taken as slaves in Ethiopia. In 1654, a rebellion broke out in Habesh, Ottoman Eritrea, and the governor in Cairo was asked to mobilize troops. This led to protest, where Cairene people apparently felt that the affluent retired eunuchs, with perceived personal ties to Habesh, should go there and solve the situation themselves.
