The rivalry between Valide Sultan, the Valide Sultan, and Haseki Sultan, the favorite concubine of Target Ruler, has turned deadly serious. Valide Sultan has long been a powerful presence at Court Title, but a shift in power has occurred, with the Chief Black Eunuch suddenly siding with Haseki Sultan. They are prepared to enter the harem and end the power of the Valide Sultan once and for all, in a very bloody fashion. Valide Sultan is not about to give up however, and is trying to compel him/her son/daughter to instead have his/her favorite killed.

Kösem was very politically savvy, but her alliance with the janissaries compelled her enemies to encourage Turhan's ambitions, and the younger woman began to plot against Kösem with the aid of Süleyman Ağa, the Chief Black Eunuch. Eventually hundreds of eunuchs and janissaries faced off inside the harem, but Kösem's party was outnumbered and fled, and the venerable Valide Sultan was seized and strangled — some say, with her own braids.
